Retreat from the Concrete: Ski Devil’s Elbow (30 sec. 2002) A spec ad using found footage directed and edited by Lester Alfonso to music by WEBmadman.

Archive Showcase

Day 22 of 360 videos from my archive. Today’s artifact is a spec ad I edited to demonstrate a slogan that my friend Andy Connelly just blurted out one day. “Retreat from the concrete,” he said. “Retreat from the concrete.”

Devil’s Elbow Ski Hill

The North Hastings Economic Development Centre approached me with the footage they had found of Devil’s Elbow Ski Resort. At the time, the ski hill was a popular destination in the area. The family-run resort had been in operation for 54 years until it was shut down in 2018. This footage captured an era.

Using software Modul8 to control video effects.

I did my best at the time. They passed on using it for their website. I look at this now and see different possibilities. Just to prove to myself how easy it is to do. I brought in the twenty-year-old video into my mixer, quickly applied some effects to it, and popped out this visual remix — done and uploaded in under ten minutes. Compare the two!

Enjoy! — LA
