When Fleming College approached me to redesign their branding in 2006, I took a look at their logo with fresh eyes. I saw it as an angled way of letterboxing a widescreen movie.

I thought the slant at the top of the image was funky.

Intended to look like a re-invention of the familiar cropping style to fit the more rectangular movies on a regular-sized screen, the window through which we see the video then shrinks to reveal that the action is taking place inside the logo itself.

This graphic shows another take on using part of the logo as a “window” for the action.

With the help of my closest collaborators, including Eric Paxton, Tammy Foreman, Wayne Eardley, and Rob Wilkes of Big Sky Design, we were able to win the pitch and produce a run of television and cinema spots.

It was a big deal to be able to see my work on the big screen like that at the local cineplex when the ad came out even if it was just a commercial. This recruitment video that I’m publishing today was a separate project that was created in the same style.
